Issues Page    VOTING     Contribute

Many Millennials are still too young to vote, however we can look at elections starting in 1996 and see what role Millennials played in them. In fact, not only did youth voting increase in the 2000 election cycle, but also there were many youth candidates. We believe that Millennials will ultimately vote at a much higher rate than Xers. This is particularly true when there is an issue that motivates them (as with many referendums), a third party candidate who speaks to them (as with Jesse Ventura and Ralph Nader), or one of their own is on the ticket.
Voting is the traditional means test to determine if someone, or a group, is considered political. Because volunteering every day, protesting the WTO, and having a strong opinion on abortion means little if when you have the opportunity to stand up and be counted, you chose to sit by and watch the process move on without you.

Motor Voter has made registration more easy and the close Presidential election of 2000 showed why it is so important, we believe we are at the beginning of a two decade rising trend in youth electoral participation.
