Until September
11, 2001 our generation has grown up without fear and military conflict
has been limited to technology-driven, casualty minimizing battles in
the Middle East and Eastern Europe. But now our national security has
been threatened by terrorist attacks and our generation will be defined
by how we react.
The military has struggled to recruit
Millennials into the Armed Forces despite an expensive advertising campaign.
However, that does not necessarily mean that this generation will be
less hawkish than generations in the past. In fact, with no memory of
the horrors of war, it may be more likely that this generation will
support overseas conflict.
This is especially true since we
feel the need to defend our country.
Please tell
us your thoughts about the generation's (& your personal) attitude
towards the military. If
you have seen newspaper articles, or read interesting stats, then forward
them our way and we will be sure to include them in the book.
If you are a part of the
Millennial Generation, tell us when you think the United States should
commit its forces overseas (e.g. only in direct political or economic
interests of the country, humanitarian reasons, international
operations.) If you are not a part
of the Millennial Generation, tell us your thoughts about the military and
