Scott is a recognized
leader of the Millennial Generation with an impressive record of
political activism and public service. He is currently the Mid Atlantic
Director for Youth Venture, a national nonprofit that promotes youth
social entrepreneurship, and a regular speaker about youth activism.
For ten years he has been an advocate for his generation. As
a freshman at Georgetown University, Scott organized rallies at the U.S. Capitol
to protest cuts in federal financial aid. These
rallies generated so
much attention that over 500 students from six local colleges and
universities attended as well as numerous Administration and Congressional
speakers.
He later authored The Pledge
for Community Service , a document Georgetown
students embraced as a guide to community action. Scott's own volunteer
work during college included registering voters with Rock the Vote (RTV).,
taking him to both the New Hampshire primaries, and the Democratic
National Convention. By the end of Scott's senior year, his leadership
on campus won him the recognition of the University President and
campus papers, which labeled him one of "the most prominent students
on campus." Additionally, Scott was nominated for the school's
highest honor, the Spronk Medal. Since college, Scott's activism has extended beyond the United States, three times taking him to Bosnia, once as the youngest member of an advance U.S. State Department group. While there, he became the youngest core supervisor from any country for the the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), an intergovernmental organization responsible for supervising elections in war-recovering Bosnia. Scott's management of a forty-five person international team resulted in the successful registration of over 30,000 Bosnian voters. In the States, Scott has worked as a Legislative Assistant to Governor Tom Carper, then-chair of the National Governors’ Association (NGA) in his Washington, DC office. While Carper was chairman of the NGA, it was ranked as the 12th most powerful lobbying organization in Washington. After three years with Governor Carper, Scott left to become the Associate Director of Intergovernmental Affairs at the White House in the final year of the Clinton Administration. In this capacity he worked with Governors and State Legislators every day responding to their concerns and promoting the President’s agenda. Due to his experience at the NGA, Scott worked very well with Republican, Democratic and Independent Governors. In
addition to his political life, for over five years, Scott has been
researching, writing and speaking about the Millennial
Generation.
He helped best-selling authors William Strauss and Neil Howe with
their
book on the generation, “Millennials
Rising.”; and, he is part of
the Leadership Circle of United
Leaders, a
youth political organization based out of Harvard University. He
is also a columnist for the
Politix
Group and a contributing writer to Adam Magazine. Scott has given
over 100 speeches on the political
attitudes and activism of the generation
at conferences, on college campuses, in high schools, in the United
States Capitol, and in the White House. He has even appeared on
CBS’s
the Early Show talking about the generation. Established in 1998,
his website, Millennial Politics.com (and its earlier versions)
have been
a constant source of activist information for youth. In addition to promoting youth activism through Millennial Politics, for the last two years Scott has contributed to the 300% growth of Youth Venture and their support of youth activists nationwide. He recently began his Masters in Public Administration at the University of Delaware. Finally, Scott is the founder of the 2100 Fund, a small nonprofit foundation that raises money for charities by hosting parties.
