2004 Youth Activist

New Year's Resolution

Millennial Politics is proud to bring you the 2004 Youth Activist New Year's Resolution. In line with our mission to educate and motivate people about our generation's activism, we encourage you to sign this New Year's Resolution. I want to be a part
of something that is
bigger than I am.

Join us in making a New Year's Resolution that makes a difference. There are a lot more important things to worry about than pledging to lose an extra five pounds or promising to run a mile every day. We are taking a pledge to make a difference in our communities, to stand up for what is right, and to never stop being outraged about the lack of justice in the world.

We at Millennial Politics have outlined eight pledges for the New Year, and we would like you to take them with us. But this is more than just talk. This is more than just making yourself feel good about saying you are going to make a difference -- if you make these pledges with us we are going to hold you to them.

Our mission at Millennial Politics is to educate and motivate our generation about youth activism. We could use your help. We welcome you to the cause.

2004 Youth Activist New Year's Resolution
I will change the world.

  I pledge to:

     1. Educate myself about activism and politics. I cannot adequately fight for social justice unless I better understand the problems of our nation and the world. I cannot argue with the other side, unless I understand where they stand.

     2. Make a weekly commitment to learn about a new organization or individual who is making a difference in their communities.

     3. Attend a service project, a political rally, or an organizational meeting at least once a month. True activists are active every month of the year.

     4. Motivate four other people over the course of the year to get involved. Each season of the year I will find someone and encourage them to become an activists.

     5. Vote in a local election and bring a friend to the polls.

     6. Lead by example.

Talk is cheap.
Together we are going to make this happen

     7. Reach out to someone who is different than I am. I will not let racial identity, economic class, political ideology, sexual orientation, physical ability, religion, or gender separate me. I will embrace my generational identity because as a generation we are united. We grew up together, we face similar challenges in life, and we must work together to make our world a better place.

     8. Never give up and never lose faith. The world will not be changed in one day, but together, by taking this pledge and keeping each honest, it can be changed in one year!
